Embellished with shining gilt ridges, the vase is decorated with Fu (the bat which symbolizes good luck; shou (longevity); and bao shuan hua (the Buddhist auspicious flower). These motifs are embellished with intertwining European style flowers. Such European floral patterns were introduced to China during the late Yongzheng to the early Qianlong period, and were used primarily for decorating porcelain wares. The object is decorated in great detail, a quality of Qianlong imperial wares. The bats have large eyes, long black mouths, and finely detailed wings. A clear four word imperial mark is within double squares on the outer base. PROVENANCE: Dr. Robert I. Lin, brought to California from Taipei in 1960s.
